Apple has suffered another embarrassment. A security breach has exposed iPad owners including dozens of CEOs, military officials, and top politicians. They-and every other buyer of the cellular-enabled tablet-could be vulnerable to spam marketing and malicious hacking.
I didn't think this was so bad - until I saw a part in the story that states that buyers of the Ipad must provide their email address to activate the Ipad. I'm wondering how many folks supplied Apple/At&t with their real, protected email address?
I stopped loving Apple quite some time ago because it really seems to me that they've become the very sort of company they tried to be the opposite of back when they were the little guy. I don't have beef with anyone who digs their stuff btw. Just not my cup of tea.
I'm hoping nobody I know is affected. It's a bitch to try and keep your main email pristine these days. So many spammers out there who wish to deflower it. :/
EDIT:Also from the story:
The subscriber data was obtained by a group calling itself Goatse Security. Though the group is steeped in off-the-wall, 4chan-style internet culture-its name is a reference to a famous gross-out Web picture-it has previously highlighted real security vulnerabilities in the Firefox and Safari Web browsers, and attracted media attention for finding what it said were flaws in Amazon's community ratings system.
and..
Exacerbating the situation is that AT&T has not yet notified customers of the breach, judging from the subscribers we and the security group contacted, despite being itself notified at least two days ago. It's unclear if AT&T has notified Apple of the breach.
