As I was lamely watching old cartoon clips (Animaniacs, Histeria, etc.) on Youtube yesterday, I stumbled across this one...
Notes:
- What is highlighted when the Brain points to "medulla oblongata" is actually the entire brainstem, including the pons and midbrain in addition to the medulla. The medulla is just the part beneath the rounded pons.
- I was about to write a snarky comment about how there was no "limbic lobe" before I discovered that it's also called the cingulate, which very much does exist. Good thing I didn't embarrass myself.
For years, my stumbling block was the "central tegmental pathway". For anyone wondering, this is the axonal tract that conveys taste sensation from the primary neuronal nucleus for taste (rostral nucleus solitarius) to the great interchange of the brain--the thalamus (VPM, to be exact). It also has stuff to do with balance and coordination of your upper limbs.
It is my opinion that more educational factoids ought to be conveyed through song and dance numbers.
