Went to the Toonseum yesterday. While looking over the Superman stuff, I fell over. Now, I'm huge, remember... The BOOM probably resonated through out the entire block. Anyway, the docents were more upset than I was. When I was a kid, I had broken my ankle. Growing up and even as an adult I've had weak ankles. Wearing my sandals yesterday evidently wasn't a good idea and I slid off of them with horrendous sound effects. But, twisted ankle be damned, I went on to view the museum - full of superhero stuff. Granted I'm not really interested in superheroes... but seeing the techniques used to make them and reading about their history was still quite interesting. For example, the guy who invented the polygraph also created "Wonder Woman". Her history was actually the most interesting. They didn't have a write up of Batman but did for Superman, Spiderman, Jack Kirby and something else my mind has totally blanked on. The museum is kind of small but it had a lot of fun things in it. On permanent display, which I nearly fell on, is a desk from the original Disney studios in California. You are even allowed to sit down at the table and draw. :) Yeah, I drew a cartoon of Rain falling on her ample fanny. :S They had two backgrounds from the Fleischer Brothers Studio that were really neat. Fleischer created a lot of the things that Disney gets credit for - like Rotoscoping and so forth. They were using it for shorts while Disney was the first to use it for a full length animated film. However, animation and history wonk that I am, I nearly shit myself when I saw they had a Windsor McCay illustration of "Gertie the Dinosaur". She was the first animated cartoon EVER!! The docent said that McCay drew everything by hand on rice paper. Well, drew Gertie, he passed of the tracing of the background onto each page to a neighbor kid. LOL! I then hit the gift shop area... stupid! They had a crapload of stuff! I bought all books and one DVD set (a huge collection of "Looney Tunes", of course). I then waddled up Liberty Street to find that Army Navy store I saw earlier. I got a duffle bag and a small attache case looking bag. Yeah, try to steal my purse, punk! It's Military surplus! OK. Not that I really want that to happen but you get the idea. By this time, my ankle was throbbing so I waddled up to the hotel and crashed, elevating my foot and reading a book by Keith Knight. I got two books by him - both are quite good. :D He sounds like he would be a fascinating person to meet and talk to... despite his self-professed big boob obsession. LOL

I then staggered up to the convention center, got into costume, and participated in the fursuit parade. I ran into Zippy Coyote and met a fellow feline who is named Omni and from Britain. Awesome! He walked with me in the parade as I couldn't wear my glasses under my mask (fogged up too badly). I can see ok without them so long as it is within a one to two feet range. After that, OOO, look at all the pretty colors! I will ask Coonwulf or Mrs. Redfield to stop by later and get photos of me at the hotel room. I couldn't wear the fuzzy feets (I meant to say that) as I didn't think my ankle would let me. :P I wore the mask, the furry dickie, the tail and the arms. Fun! We had a HUGE room for everyone to line up in... and we filled that thing full of fursuiters. Three of whom sat in front of me - yes, wheelchair furries. Two had to be pushed, one guy was like a speed demon! He even had what appeared to be a racing chair. I asked if he wanted help, he said he was fine. So, in a partial suit, that guy in the wheelchair out ran me - so, who is disabled in this situation? Awesome to see someone with that self confidence and ability. I was near the front of the parade. I was able to sit down, rest, chat with a few folks, get out of costume, chug some water and dry out before heading out the back doors... while the parade was still coming in! My God! There must have been a lot more people in costumes this year than anytime previous.

I walked about in the Dealer's Den (sounds like I'm buying drugs, doesn't it?) and picked up the two badges I commissioned. One from Calicolily and one from Stephanie Lynn (she's associated with Bast's Garden). I wobbled about, chatted with Mrs. Redfield, commissioned someone else whose name I can't remember off the top of my head and then toddled back to the hotel.

By this time, my ankle was hurting so bad and I was so sweaty, I took a nice, hot shower, washed my now stringy hair and then sat around reading, with the offending limb elevated. I thought about bringing an ace bandage... did I bring it? Hell no. *Insert derp here* However, I got to finish the one Keith Knight book and get about halfway through the second (it's huge!).

Today, I will probably just sit in the Zoo and doodle. :) I have to pick up my commission and then get my artwork from the art show. I don't know if anything sold/got bids or not. :S I'm afraid to look. Well, I'm in need of a shower and breakfast. There is a Starbucks in the lobby of the hotel (imagine that *sarcasm font*) so I can get coffee and a carbohydrate there.
