On the third day of Christmas, Sunrise Inc. brought to fans~
...one PSP game,
...Furuya Tooru appearing live,
...and sixty Gundams on a Christmas tree...!
Incase it has escaped your attention, it's the 30th anniversary of the Gundam franchise. Sadly I missed the chance to see the Gundam replica on Odaiba, but when I heard of the
celebratory Christmas tree that was going to be lit in Akihabara, I just had to go. Even more so when I learned that
Furuya Tooru would be there. I saw him and got his autograph at Desucon in June, seeing him live twice during the same year felt like too good a chance to pass up.
It was raining, and a bit windy, which might have been the reason why there was mainly press and the 100 lucky people who had bought the game and gotten the chance to get a picture taken with Furuya. Sadly I hadn't bought the game, but considering how soggy I ended up looking maybe it was for the better. |D
Anyways, PICTURES!
The tree from afar before it was lit. If you plan on going to see it, it's really easy to get to from the JR Yamanote line station. Just take the Electric Town gate, and once through it stay to the right, go across the plaza when you get out of the station and take the escalator up. Go over the bridge to UDX building and it's right there, on the second floor terrace.
People from press went here, right up to the stage. How I wished I had a press card. |D
Decorated with 60 Gundam models! Some day, I'll decorate my own Christmas tree like that...
So have you been a good little Gundam this year? (a.k.a. Setsuna's wet dream)
I am always amazed at how tiny Furuya Tooru is. He is really short but he has a huge presence and let's face it, his voice can kick asses multiple times. He used the Amuro Ray voice when he lit the Christmas tree.
And then my camera battery died. =_= There was a photoshoot for the people who purchased the game so I couldn't get close enough to get a proper photo of the Christmas tree, anyway. I had also been sharing my umbrella with a Japanese Gundam fan who showed me pictures of the Odaiba Gundam she'd seen and I was trying hard to prove that my Japanese isn't made of fail which it is haha. At this point I had stood outside in the rain for about an hour, I was developing a case of sugoi hanamizu as my hostmother would put it, and the rain was starting to seep into my Tetsuya Nomura approved boots, so I decided it was time to head home.
tl;dr Was great despite the weather, will go again to get better pictures, in better weather! \o/
ETA: Since
koyuki_san brought it up, which Gundam model would you stick as a star on top of the tree, instead of the 30th anniversary box?
