another christmas is finally here

Dec 24, 2009 01:21

i'm super mega excited, yet at the same time, the lack of christmas cheer/ spirit in Taiwan is a bit disconcerting and not to mention - off putting. I am utterly off putted

Sure there are decorations and what not about in the city but like... they.. just.. don't celebrate it as wildly as we do? There's no waboom of crazy excitement in the air. No shouting "happy holidays" or  "merry christmas"  to each other simply to spread the joy of Christmas.  I tried to keep up my upbeat attitude throughout the day, but its hard when the customers look at you abeit strangely for being overly spunky.

me: "Merry Christmas! please come back again"
response: *nods* oh... okay. you tooo.

Christmas to them is  kinda like how .... Labour day is to us. Sure its there - its a holiday, but nobody really put much of an emphasis on it.

They'll go bonkers when it's time for Chinese New Years thats for sure though. haha owell. Each to their own hey? I shouldn't criticize or complain so much. I'm only a guest in this country afterall. I can't expect their culture to be like what i'm used to.

But for crying out loud! Christmas! my favourite time of the year. They sure have watered it down for me somewhat.

So tomorrow! Is the 24th. I manage to score myself a half day off from work. Got invited to Aunt Kelley and Andrew's place. Vincent's going to take us over there after work. We still havn't gotten them any presents yet. It'd be rude to go empty handed wouldn't it. Hopefully we'll find something decent before dinner.

Christmas Eve:
8:30am till 2:30pm - work.
2:30 till 4:30pm - christmas shopping. shouldn't take long
5pm onwards - christmas dinner and such.
** sleepover**

Christmas Day:
it will either be an extremely active day that consists of- hiking, basketball, tennis, pilates, and hot springs. Or an extremely lazy one with board games by the fireplace, tea, and or movies.

HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS   EVERYONE <3

work, family, shopping, christmas, taiwan, cold
