The wedding was being held in a beautiful cathedral in France and you could see the joy in everyone's eyes. He had to help the groom get ready since he was the best man for this wedding. Of course he was the best man since he was the one who introduced the bride and groom after all and they had to show their gratefulness.
"You look beautiful," he whispered to the bride as he hugged her.
"Thank you for everything," responded the bride, "you supported us even though he was with you first and you have no idea how rateful I am to you."
With tears in his eyes he told her, "You're the one who can give him everything he wants, a family and beautiful children. I could never give that to him."
He left the room with her staring at him with tears in her eyes and went to congratulate the groom. As he watched him preparing for this day he couldn't help but feel that it should be him in the other changing room. He couldn't help but wonder why he had introduced her to him and why he had supported them instead of fighting against it. When he saw the utter joy in the face of his loved one he found his answer.
"I think we should take a break from each other."
"I see. It's because of her isn't it."
"You know that I love you but I can't handle the secrecy anymore. When I'm with her I don't have to worry about hiding from the public eye. Please just let me try this. I still love you and I promise I'll return to you."
He had known at that time that the promise would be broken but he had agreed anyways. He stupidly thought that his love would be enough against the hatred of the world. When he saw the happiness that they experienced together and the acceptance from others he knew he had to let go. It was the end for him but a begining for them.
