I adore my 10:30 Russian Literature Class

Today we were discussing Pushkin. Someone asked a question about the poem included at the begining of Queen of Spades, and whether or not he'd put it there originally, or if it was just featured with this particular translation. The professor mentioned that authors sometimes included poems, or epitaths or whatever, to underscore the overall mood of the play.

The Absolutely Unbearable Creative Writing Major Who Never Shuts Up About It immediately raised her hand. "Yes, but it's considered a gimmick in the Creative Writing World," she said coolly.

.... Yeah.

I have had classes with this creature before. She always, always does this.

The rest of the class dropped into the cautious, mildly nauseated silence that usually follows anything TAUCWMWNSUAI says.

I turned to my neighbor. "You know, we're so lucky to have this insight into the world of creative writing."

Without missing a beat, she replied, "You are so right. I mean, how many people have this opportunity?"

"We're honored," I said. "Basically."

She nodded pragmatically, and then we both went back to taking notes.
