Donghae gasped in shock at the sight of his past lover. He had convinced himself that he would never see the beautiful man before him-although deep inside, he had the slightest, tiniest hope that he would.
Smiling gently, Hyukjae stepped forward to hold the broken man on the bed. He held him in his arms, feeling complete once again. Absorbing his sweet, familiar scent, Hyukjae sighed into the embrace. He had missed this-God, he had missed this.
“Hae… Long time no see,” Hyukjae breathed into the other’s ear. “I’m sorry I didn’t contact you at all. I wanted to, I swear.” He pulled away to look into Donghae’s eyes. “I never meant for us to break up like we did. I just-I just had to take care of something before it was safe to be with you.”
Donghae blinked, refusing to believe that the man who haunted his dreams was back-in his arms nonetheless. As reality slowly sunk in, Donghae felt his eyes well up with tears before they made their way down to his slim, taut face. He didn’t bother wiping them away. Flinching slightly when he felt cold fingers brush ever so gently against his skin, Donghae leaned into the almost forgotten touch and felt something he hadn’t felt in a long while: relaxed, relieved and somewhat joyful.
“H-Hyukjae, how could you leave me like this? Do you know how hard it’s been for me these past few years?” Donghae sobbed brokenly in the other man’s warm embrace.
“I’m so sorry Donghae. I don’t even know how to apologize so that you’ll forgive me.” Hyukjae’s eyes told a sad, painful story.
“Just tell me that you love me and that you’ll never leave my side again,” Donghae’s eyes remained shut as he whispered the words that completed Hyukjae’s world.
Taking Donghae’s bony hand in his, Hyukjae kissed each and every one of his fingers before making a trail to the other’s face. There, he placed the softest, lightest shade of a kiss on Donghae’s lips. The simple gesture spoke nothing but love.
“I love you Donghae. And I’m willing to spend the rest of my life trying to prove it to you.”
Upon hearing those words, Donghae smiled. His first real smile in years. With Hyukjae by his side, he felt that he was reborn.
“Never leave me Hyukjae,” Donghae sighed softly. “Never leave me again.”

Donghae stared at the beautiful man before him. He reached out and made a grab for him with shaky arms. He smiled in victory as he came in contact, but the grin slipped immediately off his face once his hands grasped at empty air.
As though all strength had left him, Donghae tumbled to the floor, wincing at the sudden cold. It was not the first time that he envisioned the gorgeous red head coming towards him. And it surely would not be the last.
Since his departure from his life, Donghae started capturing glimpses of his past-his once perfect life. A second after, however, truth came crashing down and Donghae would once again realize that he was alone and destined to be so for the rest of his life.
At the moment, he spent the day chasing wild fantasies, cruel mirages in the air and terribly beautiful dreams of what had been. At night, Donghae slept fitfully as a man with red hair haunted him with his stunning smiles and perfect figure.
Bitterly, Donghae smiled. A smile that was not quite right. By now, he had long accepted this wicked game of cat and mouse, he the cat chasing the painful past. Something flashed in Donghae’s eyes as he caught the sight of the man he was looking for.
Let the game begin.
