Book number 2...done!

Since the boy is on the computer a lot these days, I have a lot of time for myself. When I'm too tired for the art thing, I've been curling up with some books that have been on my shelves for quite a while now - still waiting to be read.

Last night, I finished Dai Sijie's "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress". It's a fast read about two Chinese boys who get sent to the mountains for their "re-education" during the 1970's. There's a pretty girl they both are sweet on, a cache of forbidden "Western" books and the daily going-ons of their lives. It was both funny and bittersweet at the same time. I don't know why I didn't read it until now. The interesting part was how these Western books influenced these very simple people that they interacted with every day.

I have to remember to keep a list of these books in hopes of hitting that 50 mark. For now, I'm posting them here.
