“‘M sorry,” Ben mutters. He squirms in the man’s firm grip. “Ow, you’re rubbing my eye!”
“How did you get this filthy?” Richard asks, scrubbing harder. “You’re covered in dirt.”
“How do you stay so clean all the time?” Without his glasses, Ben feels helpless and blind. “I was looking for lizards. They live under rocks.”
“I just wish you’d tell me where you go.”
“Come with me next time, then.”
“Maybe I will,” he answers, and they both smile.
