I have a lot on my mind, and I feel the need to regurgitate.
It occurs to me that I don't take the time to use this blog enough anymore-- time to fix that, methinks, now that I have a working computer again. Hey, I'll start with that:
My laptop, Francesca, suffered an unfortunate and unusual failure of her fan a while (say two months maybe) back. No notta nothing happening, CPU getting crazy-hot, my keyboard suffered some meltage (J is now permanently warped, unfortunately for my name) and things were generally just bad. In addition, shortly after this, my AC adapter decided to die; the plug soldering broke, and it's rigged so you can't fix it (What A Gyp!!) Well anyway, I took it as a sign from the universe that I ought to lay off the crack-- er, I mean internet-- for a while, and get in touch with real life again. I'm actually very glad it happened, and that I was forcibly severed from the web for a while. Hell, I was starting to think about playing video games in my spare time again-- stupid, stupid, stupid waste of time.
I mean really, what the fuck does playing a video game accomplish? NOTHING. You just distract yourself from real life for a while (sometimes a LONG while), then you have to get right back into it again. It's not even like you take anything away from it, like you might from a seeing a well-done (and pointedly finite) movie or reading a good book. You gain NOTHING, and it steals time away from your life you will NEVER have back. What better way to serve the system than blowing your hard-earned money (from a job which already stole plenty of your life away) on fruitless escapism? The worse things get, the more you want to do it. Feeling angry? Then go kill people in a virtual world! You'll vent all your anger on the stereotypical images of people they WANT you to hate, while defusing your own potential to convert such powerful emotions into empowering actions. While you're at it, you're wasting even more electricity, which is burning up more oil, which is lining Dick Cheney and Big Oil's pockets with more blood money, and fueling their campaign for greed-driven domination of the Middle East.
So, the other day I decided to borrow my roommate's AC adapter and go online, to scope out options for repairing my baby. I plugged in, fired up Franny, logged in and scaled down my CPU (which was already getting hot), then launched Firefox. I went to ebay and punched "HP Pavilion dv6105 replacement fan" into the search engine, and hit ENTER... And AT THAT VERY MOMENT, my fan spun up!!! It was all like "Oh shiiite, man! I didn't think you were SERIOUS about replacing me! I'd better get back to work, huh?" and has been performing in an exemplary fashion ever since. Jeez. I ordered a new AC adapter off ebay, and now I'm wired once more-- though in a much more responsible way, mind you.
And what brilliant timing: School starts on Monday, and I NEED my lappy to do homework and stay connected to my club and tutoring work. If it hadn't started working before then, I would have been up Shit Plateau without a Carabiner.
Oh hey! Guess what! I'm making PUPPETS for STREET THEATER! I'm so excited! I've never sculpted, done paper mache, or painted before, and now I'm doing lots of all of that. I can't say too much, but it's a really sweet scene I've landed in, and I'm really happy to be helping out.
Speaking of helping out, the Republican National Convention is coming up. Y'all are going to be there, right? We're talking TENS OF THOUSANDS of people from all over the country, marching on the Xcel energy center to protest the actions of our bloody administration. It's going to be spectacular, no matter how you look at it. And as long as you don't participate in violent direct action, or blockading streets, or anything highly-arrestable, it's a low-risk protest. The main march will have SO many people in it, the cops won't be doing anything but standing around looking mean (and scared). I'm serious: come out and march! Even if you do nothing else all week (and there is a LOT to do all week), you should at least be there on September 1st if you live in or near Minnesota.
While I'm on the subject, I have to plug the Youth Against War and Racism (YAWR) demonstration at the State Capitol on September 4th as well. All over the metro area, there will be student walkouts and strikes, from which high school and college students will converge on St. Paul. There YAWR will be rallying and leading a "March To Arrest The War Criminals" from the Capitol down to the Xcel and back. I promise that, if you come to it, you will NOT be disappointed. It will be a fun, engaging event, and another non-violent and low-risk way to protest the actions of Big Oil and our depraved rulers.

Whew, I feel better. Sorry about that; I think I'm allergic to evil bastards. They're all coming to town, and I've been coughing and fending off a runny nose for weeks now! Coincidence? I think not!
