Have read new fanfic by dogeared that is .. well, not so new. Lovely stuff. Very short and sweet. But there isn't much new fanfic on the world wide web, is there? Is my lovely show fanbase already dying off as so many had sadly predicted? mklutz ,who delights me greatly with her fic recs and general internet voodoo, has been mostly reccing Merlin stuff for the past several days/weeks.
And I like Merlin, don't get me wrong. I understand some of the concern about the show re. poor female plots, overall not-so-great storytelling; but overall I think those 'cons' make it a perfect internet fanbase show. Because then we can take all the things we don't like and fix them.
Show's that are all around wonderful don't seem overly huge on-line: BSG being the most easy that comes to mind. There's lots of art that I can find, but only so many stories. I'm assuming its because the show itself is so awesome and obviously written with an underlying storyling in mind that the fans have difficulty inserting themselves and their (our) views into that world.
Not so with SGA and Merlin. Two very lovely (and pretty) but overly B-rated shows that left lots of cracks out there in the open for us to slip into and start messing around with.
... not unlike my lady's tibia, which has cracks you could drive a bull-dozer through and not stop to notice. Poor dear.
Anywhos - still missing my SGA, though. Because Rodney needs to break up with Keller and start kissing John. And Ronon deserves a happy ever after. And Woolsey needs to take them back and keep getting more awesome. And Teyla needs to raise Torren and teach him solider-vs-Wraith and stick-fightening.
And I want a season six, dammit! But we're not getting one, and really season 1, 3 and 4 were enough for me. But the fanfiction has always made it better.
... so I don't find the time to write many stories lately, but I tend to make them up as bedtime attractions when I'm trying to fall asleep. Usually the most angsty/mopey ideas I can create. Like John and Keller are instantly trapped in a moments-to-destruction broken ancient transporter and Rodney has a half-second to choose which one he's going to save, and he chooses John (with more or less confusion and angst, depending on how tired I am) and then - because he's so awesome and a genius - he manages to fix the code and save Keller as well. Only John kinda half figures out that Rodney chose him over Jennifer, and Rodney feels guilty for being with a woman he thought he truly loved, only to realize he would let her die if it means he gets to keep John as his best friend instead. And this of course leads to awkward conversations (during which I think Jen would be upset if understanding and Rodney is fumbling and miserable but sincere) and John running away and then coming back, and either completely crushing on Rodney or working up to do (depending on how awake I feel).
I think that'd be fun. And completely Rodney destroying. *huggles Rodney* He's just so cute when being upset yet sincere.

.. okay I'll stop plaguing the internet and go to bed. In my cold hard on-call room. *sigh*
At least there was order-in Tai food. My sole joy in life :)
