HI. This is the thing what I wrote for my Yuletide author so's to be clarifying my requests. Before moving on to the contents, I just want to say..... hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~ I want to know things about you! Are you are veteran Yuletider, or is this your first run? Do my requests fill you with glee or panic? Are you an early bird or the type who runs on deadline-imminent adrenaline? What is your favourite ice cream flavour? DO YOU EVEN EAT ICE CREAM?!?!?!
I like how this letter has nothing to do with anything yet. Getting back on track, I am really happy to have you here, and am so delighted that we share a fandom! Go forth and create! It is straight-up coo' of you to offer the gift of a story, and I shall be honoured to accept it when the time comes. IS IT THE TIME YET?? .....no? Okay.
I have no squicks you need to worry about! I love enormous, unexplored environments and strange happenings and animals and monsters! Yeah! k, let's go this way now.
The Walking Dead
Shane Walsh, Daryl Dixon
Shane and Daryl rarely interact and don't share many apparent similarities. They're deeply flawed, and deeply devoted to their chosen causes. Sometimes, watching them manage their personal demons (which, oddly enough, don't seem to have changed that much in the face of a zombie apocalypse) leaves them looking a lot more terrifying than any walker. I'm leaning toward gen here, but anything goes! Totally optional prompts: raised by wolves, survival training, naming the dead.
I was only peripherally aware of this show until very recently! The first season was given to me. I DEVOURED IT LIKE SWEET LIVING FLESH. And ever since the second season started airing, I've been keeping up with it fairly fanatically. Which is.... rare. I think the last era of OUTTA THE WAY, I'M WATCHIN MAH STORY was devoted to Xena, so yeeeeeeeeeeeah.
I guess there are a few reasons why I'm following it so closely. There are the obvious things like zombies, nice cinematography and a guy with a crossbow who talks about occasionally about chupacabras, but I also really enjoy the implicit moral lying just underneath the plot and the individual events of each episode: people don't really change, even in the face of a zombie apocalypse. (Unless, of course, they. Become. Zombies.) I mean, all the survivors are still capable of being petty assholes or selfless providers (or both, in turns!) and they still make goals and they still make mistakes. Their personalities and tendencies are being amplified by some major stress, sure, but it's their environment that's wildly different now.
That's why Shane and Daryl are fascinating to me. They do seem to have changed over the course of their experiences, but I'm not sure they really have; it's more the way that the other characters are looking at them that's different. So you have to assume that Daryl's always taken refuge in the woods and Shane's always been the type to put himself first; for that matter, I guess Daryl's always had it in him to take freaky trophies and Shane has always shown unhesitating devotion to people and causes he finds important!
In terms of a story, I'd be totally on board with pre-canon foreshadowing of everything these two have proven themselves capable of doing. Do not feel locked into writing that scenario, though! I love me the apocalypse and all its snarling zombies. Pretty much any story that addresses these guys and the ways they differentiate themselves from the monsters is welcome and pre-emptively beloved~
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Nabooru
I love Nabooru and her desert fortress and her red hair and her complete fearlessness. I'd love to read about any point in her life, from her time in Gerudo Valley during Ganondorf's rule, to her enslavement to Koume and Kotake, to her interactions with the other Sages. Preeeetty much anything works for me. Gen or femslash preferred but not required! Totally optional prompts: dark horses on the dunes, the inverted mountain, the desert's mercy.
I can't even tell you what this game means to me, hhhhhhhng. My love for it is boundless, I'm one of those Ocarina fans. I'm fully willing to admit that it has a great deal of nostalgic value to me, so I'm more inclined to praise it over other/newer Zelda games BUT OSIDFHAOHGFOAIH this game was my life for yeeears. I love the size and scope of Hyrule and the way it keeps its mystery no matter how carefully you explore it.
Every single character I can think of is pretty great. Nabooru's my one of my absolute favourites in the bunch because I have a thing for deserts and horses and women whirling blades around like mirrors that reflect your insides, UMMMMMM. As a race, everything we know about the Gerudo comes from this incredible mix of legend and twisted truths and ominous assumption (considering Ganondorf is their token son of the century); and then Nabooru walks up and she's all, WHAT UP OUR KING IS AN ASSHOLE GET ME THOSE SACRED TREASURES THANKS. Be still, my heart~
Yeah, so I love her on her own, and I love her with other Gerudo, and I love her with other people, and I love her in box and with a fox. Impa also sets me all a-flutter and....... she is basically the exact opposite of Nabooru? So hilarity could ensue with their increased exposure to each other, once both have been awakened as Sages. Seriously though, ANYTHING is welcome, I only ask for more of my thieving, mouthy queeeeeeen~
System Shock series
SHODAN
I played these games simultaneously anticipating and dreading the next communication with SHODAN. Years later, the feeling persists! (Phone rings; MIGHT BE MURDEROUS AI.) Having the chance to read SHODAN voice would be amazing. Backstory set in the span of time before she was hacked or maybe her perspective on the removal of her ethical 'restrictions' would be just as deliciously nervemelting. Totally optional prompts: hivemind, machine aesthetic, check your email :)
"Look at you, hacker....."
Aaaand never has a keyboard been flipped with more vehemence. SHODAN is legitimately terrifying. In-game, she controls your environment completely; you're on a starship, and in a manner of speaking she IS the starship. She's omnipresent and without compassion and she likes to bioengineer cyborg-zombie hordes in her free time. And. It sounds ridiculous, but I want to hear more from her. Further communications with The Many, or XERXES, or any of the soldiers she's menaced; I want these things! Because nothing says happy holidays like an inhuman voice slithering down a cold metal corridor. If you'd like to lean more toward crackfic for the sake of your sanity, THAT WOULD BE AMAZING TOO. I like my dread queen arrogant and pitiless, but she wouldn't do too badly with a slight attitude adjustment. Worked for GLaDOS, right? RIGHT???
For those unfamiliar with the game, System Shock and System Shock 2 are PC first-person shooters, and they are great. I submit this evidence for the jury's consideration:
