waving from the abyss

Despite the best efforts of these past two weeks, I am alive and am now attempting to update for the first time in four months. How do I know it's been nearly four months? Because that's how long Joe and I have been married :) We are still enough of newlyweds that we count. Plus people ask us a lot: "So, how long have you two been married?"

Married life is good; it isn't all that different yet, which makes me happy. Too often you hear these horror stories that almost immediately after the wedding the people change into these horrible monsters. I don't want that to be us.

Just after returning from the honeymoon I got a promotion at work (and a raise!). They moved me to the complex division, so now all my cases are the major felonies: murder, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault. At the time it made me feel like a towering badass of a lawyer. I wish I were still in that honeymoon phase. At the moment I am in the middle of a trial term and life is miserable. Please let me just make it to Thanksgiving.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, this is a year of firsts. Joe and I will be able to use all that fancy china we got for the wedding, as we will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the family. Since my mom and step-dad will be in Italy for two weeks starting November 17, the "whole family" thus boils down to Joe and myself, my brother and sister-in-law. Which is perfect: if I'm going to ruin a turkey dinner, it's best to ruin it for two people and a vegetarian :)

Hope everyone else is doing well... and please alert me if I missed anything major!
