Day 1 (/11/11)

Jan 11, 2011 20:26

Intentionally trying out a different voice today:
Forgot to mention the high-gravity experiments from last week (+2). Contacted the mothership one diurnal cycle prior (+5). Reprogrammed chronological assistant, salvaged unused parts (+1). Enjoyed standard-issue powdered cocoa beverage with requisite candy cane; something I forgot about that, the beverage dissolves the candy in tiers as you drink it. Spotted a diminutive life-form outside observation deck; went to collect it,(+1) but discovered it to be crystal-based, and assumed it would not survive the sweltering heat inside the station.
I discovered a completely unexpected alien invasion, am still reviewing status. Posted one public salvage for sale (+1), mapped nearby starbases (+1). Studied upcoming exploration (+1), sent communique for members of same (+1). The company's health plan was much simpler to read than expected (+1), broke down to three projects for later. Hailed two other committees on the station (+2). Reviewed brother's black hole thesis, sent back a few suggestions (+1). Took his suggestion to add cruciferous vegetable matter to reconstituted food product (+5); glad I got that one, it was getting old but I really hate throwing out food. Also thoroughly enjoyed the end of one of the bread units given me by J'nell. Studied signal frequency (+1), created a working prototype (+1); still need to transcribe instructions so people know how to use it.
All in all an excellent cycle, and very pleased with new program's operation. Several previously-planned duties require ships to carry, so we'll see if I can enact them next cycle, but still executed a good number. Resetting duty roster. Fairly well trapped on this station until shipping lanes are operational again. Social channels (+5) probably necessary for continued health and sanity, but need to examine their integration into the new program. Brief patch of clear space visible.29 points in one day, definitely more accomplished than usual. Not sure if I can keep up this kind of posting every day.
And yes, I made a tiny snowbeing on my balcony.
Didn't know what to answer "What do you do during the breaks after 10 minutes of computer?", currently think massage and stretching is the right answer, which also neatly takes care of the question of when I'm doing that.So this took a while to get out:
I saw a child being yelled at on the bus last year, and I had no clue how to react. Telling the (presumed) mother to stop would have created a confrontation and, if this behavior was indicative, caused a likely abuse situation later in which the child was blamed for the incident. Trying to track her and report her to child services had a low likelihood of succeeding, and I'm not sure removal would have been less traumatic than what might or might not be a pattern. The best I could do was offer mental fortitude and hope the child grew strong.

What the fuck.
