The city is wisterical!Unless we're willing to implement mind control (and various texts have shown us the dangers of such, "Serenity" probably being my favorite), there will never be an end to the violence.
It is the result of an idea. The idea is that whatever I want is more important than your well-being. Nothing but brainwashing will be able to put a stop to the idea. While the voice of our cultures certainly shape the idea to either diminish or reinforce it, there is no other way to absolutely prevent people from having this idea and finding /some/ way to implement it.
I am grateful that the psyche option will never be worth it, even if it means there will always be violence. One bad apple, or a thousand, or even a million will never be enough to spoil the good. There are several billion of us, and most of us want to help. I find myself humbled by the responses of the other runners, the locals reaching out, rival New York, and even across the world. I wish it hadn't happened, but it ends up showing us the best in people.
And even if violence were somehow eliminated, inhuman catastrophes would still happen, ranging from global to personal. But for most of us, there's more good moments than bad. After reading an article about ambition, I'm thinking I'm pushing myself too hard. If there isn't something that makes me feel like I have to pursue it, is there anything wrong with drifting along? It's not like I'm wasting my brain, just not getting degrees with it.
Okay, I might be wasting the GRE...
