Today I decided I would like to think about things a bit more. To quench this notion, I engaged in one activity all but GUARANTEED to dull the mind and the senses: I watched an Indian film. The flick in question is Main Hoon Na for those who care. The songs were average and sometimes catchy, but the choreography was lacking. I did think
Amrita Rao was attractive though, and that made this movie more than worth the cost of admission (*cough*free*cough*). The acting wasn't superb, but I wasn't expecting much from Bollywood so that was no cause of disappointment. The plotline...oh boy. I'm trying to articulate how predictable and dumb it was, but I find that I'm not eloquent enough. My advice: don't watch this movie.
Let no one call me Mr. Pessimistic or Mr. Negativity. For the aforementioned movie I suggest you DON'T watch, I shall suggest TWO (count 'em, TWO) movies that I liked and will recommend. The first is Dodgeball (still in theaters!). This movie is hilarious and the more I think about it the more I like. My mind may be playing tricks on me, but the images of David Hasslehoff screaming at the German team after they lost a match and Bernice, the girl scout found to be taking two types of anabolic steroids and a mild beaver tranquilizer brings a smile to my face and a warm urge to chuckle. The other movie I recommend to you is Spider-Man 2. I caught this film on Saturday, chipping in my 9.75 towards the 180 million the feature film captured in the first six days of release with my brother and Salim. After a hearty meal at Romano's Macaroni Grill - I recommend the Ravioli Formaggi, so flavorful - we headed over to the 10:30pm show at Pacific and were thereafter blown away (sometimes literally, thanks to the THX). Even though some of us don't have super abilities I think it is easy to sympathize with Peter Parker because we all want something that's almost within reach, but are tied down to this world and are unable to grasp this desire. And in the end, it's lovely to find that everything works out for the best when we are true to ourselves. Spider-Man's main nemesis in this particular film is Dr. Octavius. I thought the antagonist was good because his motives were understandable and rationale could be followed (unlike some villains who are flat out crazy and ambiguous in regards to their motive to take the chosen path). The only person I didn't really like was J.J. Jamison, but perhaps he was deliberately made to be annoying. Also, Mr. Robertson was clearly there to springboard him into a bigger role in the next film, but I thought his lines were inane and not well delivered. Overall though, EVERYONE should see this movie: watch!
Any OTHER news about me? the faithful reader enquires. Some may have noticed that the call out to my cousin Priya in my profile is larger than usual. This is because I recklessly made a bet on, of all things, Jeopardy. For those that aren't abreast of the latest in Jeopardy happenings, the producers of the show removed the five game maximum limit on a player's tenure. One prodigal young man by the name of Ken Jennings has taken advantage of this development and is making a record run, with 25 wins under his belt and spoils of 800 grand in his coin purse. That sure is a pretty penny. Who would have thought being a trivia nerd would pay off so well? So anyway, I staked the size of the name in the profile (I'm in her profile also) and a lot of pride that Ken would win 23 matches, no more, no less - nevermind that I had never seen him in action before nor even watched the gameshow regularly before this. Needless to say that I lost and Ken is still winning and the message "Hi Pri!" will be huge in my profile for about a month.
Still not satisfied? Okay. Here's a bit more. In the last update, not so long ago, I mentioned briefly that we got a VHS - DVD converter and I was converting old baby movies on VHS to old baby movies on DVD. The process is ongoing with only minor hitches. The problems are that the player tends to spontaneously freeze and turn itself off in the middle of a sequence and sometimes the VHS tapes don't want to play correctly (problem in audio, video, or both). Either way, it's fun to see some of these old tapes because I was great when I was small. After age, 5, it all went downhill. Don't ask me how or why, but my early childhood years truly were the glory years where I shine. Maybe soon I will once again regain that swagger and pizzazz that I have so obviously lost. Some blame society. I blame the schools. It's fun, overall, to see my brother crawling around and so easily amused, me running around not listening to anyone and just being a spoiled nuisance, and not to mention my parents so much younger and active as they worked hard to take care of us babies. Fun fun fun. Fun fun.
Okay, my writing is clearly losing any luster it may once have possessed. My wit failing me and mind bereft of original ideas, I see you want MORE MORE MORE. Either that, or it's 4 a.m. and I'm a victim of sleep-drunkenness. Very well. Some of you may have caught allusions to a trip to India while conversing with me (or reading this Journal perhaps). Let me put the rumors to rest - I shall be leaving for India in a weeks time. My flight departs from sunny California on the 14th of July and in two days time I should reach Bombay by way of Germany (Frankfurt, specifically). I just realized this will be the first time I'll set foot on European soil since in past trips to India I went via Asia. But anyway, the itinerary will be L.A. to Frankfurt, Germany to Bombay, India to New Delhi, India, and then back to Frankfurt and finally back to home sweet home in L.A. on July 30th. Many of you may wonder: Why in the world would someone spend a thousand bucks to go halfway around the world and only stay for only two measly weeks. The reason why I'm leaving so late is because I will find out if make the Biomedical program I'm trying for in a day or two, and I need to be here for that so I can take care of forms and such. The reason why I am coming back so early is because if I make the aforementioned program, medical school will begin early - August 2nd - and I should probably be back to attend that thing.
I hope this post was helpful and informative. May your journeys be long, the roads windy, and the views beautiful.
