Earthquake

Let me just preface this with anyone who didn't know my family had a place in Hawaii and I effectively lived out there for some time, well, now you do know. Now if you've been following the news you've probably heard a little about it, not a lot though because fortunately there were no deaths and the damage was relatively minor compared to past earthquakes of this magnitude in places like southern California. So before you move on to Kim Jong-Il (aka Nut with a Nuke) and the inevitable Korean War sequel, I thought I'd share.

When I did live there I wasn't in Honolulu or Maui like everyone else, we lived on the west coast of the "Big Island" in the Kona region in the town of Kailua. This happens to be the immediate costline from where the center of the earthquake was. Naturally I was really wondering what happened, like if my old place was still standing but it doesn't sound like it was all that devestating, so that is good. Just for fun, some pictures....

This picture is taken literally within blocks of my old home (I recognize the gate on the left) [IMAGE]

This is the grocery store we always went to [IMAGE]

This is an old palace right in the heart of town with some damage [IMAGE]

So yeah, that's it. Just felt like sharing.

My other events, worked on some drafting with new tools for MLFD last night. Riley came by to help which made life a lot easier. This morning I had a meeting with Hennepin County Communications to work out the details of changes to MLFD radios, another productive meeting done. Tonight is MLFD training and tomorrow afternoon I'm shadowing a fire inspector to complete my field project for class. Should be a blast!

Cheers.
