i.e. Kathy's swanned off to Vegas to spend the week with her mother.
The new job is going OK so far -- I still haven't gotten access to all the computery-type things I need to have access to, so I haven't started the hard core training yet, but I've been reading things and doing related tutorials and looking at the reports other people on the team are doing. I think, once I have a chance to become familiar with the database and the reporting program they use, I'm going to be fine. Queries are pretty much queries in any system, after all.
I'm trying to come up with something to put on the walls of my very barren cube. For reasons unknown to me, I was assigned one of the larger, nicer cubes in the area when my team sits. Not sure why one of the more senior members didn't get it, but I'm not arguing. I brought in a couple of small desktop things, but I really need some wall decor. Staring at an expanse of blank beige pinboard is not inspiring. The other thing I really, really need to do is get used to going to bed earlier. Since I was working from home before, I got used to rolling out of bed five minutes before I needed to log in, and that won't wash anymore. The New Place is not a bad commute, as Phoenix goes, but they are much stricter about keeping regular hours than the Old Place was.
Shortly before I got the offer for this position, I was informed that there was another position opening at the Old Place, and they were actively trying to recruit the report writers who'd been let go for it. I sent off an application, but then got this offer almost immediately thereafter. Bird in the hand, and all, so when the Old Place contacted me to set up an interview, I told them sorry, already taken. But I heard a couple of days ago that one of the other people on my old team did get it, so that's good. Two of us are taken care of, at least. I'm not sure about the other three people who got let go, but I can only hope they've had good luck.
