Normally I don't take my phone with me when I walk Bo. This is mainly just because I've never really gotten into the habit of carrying with me at all times; a lot of times, I leave it in my purse or on my desk. Today, however, I had it with me, because Kathy's off to visit her mom for a few days, and she had just been texting me that she'd gotten to Pennsylvania safely and all that stuff. So I took it along just in case she sent another text.
Thus it was when I got to the side of the park which borders on several semi-crappy apartment complexes, and saw a guy beating up his wife/girlfriend/whatever in the parking lot, I was able to whip out my phone and call 911. Then I lurked under the olive trees with Bo, and stayed on the line with the operator until the cops showed up and I could tell them which apartment the couple had gone into. Urgh. I know the odds are good that the woman, whoever she was, won't press charges, and they were too far away and it was too dark for me to make a positive identification of the man even if she did, but I did what I could. :(
Spent a couple of hours today whittling the enormous pile of bouganvilla trimmings into smaller pieces, so they'll fit into the green waste bin once it's emptied of the last batch of trimmings. I estimate it will take at least two more bins to get rid of it all, maybe three. It looks like we're in for another hellishishly hot week (going to be 110F and up again) so I can only do yardwork in small increments. I did pick some grapes, and the bags seem to be working very well; no bird damage at all. (No appreciable difference between bags with and bags without holes, btw.) The only problem now is that it's going to be so hot that if I'm not careful, some of the bunches may raisinize on the vine before they're completely ripe.
Since we're in a long-term RPG again, I've been wanting to finish painting some of my old miniatures, plus the new one I got for my new character. (I LOVE Hero Forge.) All my old paints dried up and were thrown away ages ago, so I did a little research online as to what the best paints for these newfangled plastics are, and ordered a kit, which arrived yesterday. I think I'll experiment on some old random miniatures before tackling the new one, as it's been a long time since I did this. I did invest in one of those craft magnifiers, so hopefully that will help.
