Good to know... I wonder, too, if server migration might have been the source of some of the technical issues we've been having over the past few days.
Huh. I thought they had done that years ago, when LJ became part of Six Apart.
ETA: the last couple times I've renewed my account, I've used PayPal instead of a credit card. And our cc number has changed since the last time I used it with LJ. So at least that's covered.
No, Six Apart sold LJ to SUP, a Russian company, but the servers were still located in the US, and subject to US law. That's one reason why the Russian half of LJ was so attractive to Russian dissident bloggers of various kinds. If they've moved the servers to Russia, it's going to be bad news for them. Less bad for US bloggers in a political sense, because there's not much they could do to someone over here except delete their blog. But the fact is, the US side of LJ has been losing money hand over fist for years. So if the servers have been moved, that's one less reason for SUP to keep the non-Cyrillic service going.

I just ran my LJ address through http://ping.eu/traceroute/ and it does seem to go through a Russian server now. :/

I like that they made it an option.
