Spider plant, spider plant, does whatever a spider can't...

So has anyone ever tried growing spider plants from seed? I've never known spider plants to propagate save by runners, but the one on my desk at work has little white flowers on its runners, which eventually set into seed pods. I've been collecting the seeds as they ripen, and I am sorely tempted to go all Gregor Mendel on their leafy asses just ( Read more... )

There's nothing quite like a new pillow, is there? Especially if it's the right pillow. Contour memory foam is my new friend. :) Did you get something fancy?

I can offer no thoughts on the spider plants. I'm the Grim Reaper of all indoor green growing things. I just destroyed an oregano plant I'd been nursing from a seedling since June. It survived a major hail storm, massive winds, and driving rain outside; I re-pot it to keep it "safe" indoors, and it dies (read: I kill it) within two weeks. *sigh*

This is what I found online, on a variety of Spider plants out their. I think the woman did grow them from seeds, on at least one plant.

Pillows out their seem so much softer than normal, I prefer a more firmer pillow but can't find any.

PS Do you think any of your cats on the rare chance might like to do something like this ?

I don't know about growing spider plants, but I know cats love to eat them. And puke them. I don't recommend them for inside your house...your cats are barftastic enough as it is.

The seedlings would presumably have a percentage of all green which would indeed be interestingly Mendelian. I have no further thoughts to add on the question because my Secret Shame is that I can't grow house plants.

Never even thought about trying them from seeds (or noticed the seeds, for that matter). But it makes sense, if they make them, something must grow from them. :)
