I got the lowdown Monday, fast-approaching ficathon deadline blues

Jul 14, 2008 12:44

The CYA deadline is tomorrow, and my CYA story is probably about three-quarters finished. If I really, really push, I might finish it tonight. But if I'm at all honest with myself, the last third or so isn't going to be in any shape to post. It came out longer than I'd anticipated - I was thinking it would be in the neighborhood of 5-7000 words, and it's running up on 10,000 now, and will probably be in the neightborhood of 12-15,000 before I'm done. I think I'm going to have to break it into two or three parts. I can post the first part tomorrow, and the second part either tomorrow or by Wednesday at the latest, and then the third part this weekend, when I've had a chance to revise it properly. Rats. I hate not being able to post the whole thing on time, but I would hate even more to post something that wasn't properly finished, espcially since this is being written to a request.

This is absolutely the last time I enter a write-to-spec ficathon, though - I wanted to see if I could do it, and I can, sort of, but it's incredibly nerve-racking wondering if I'm really turning out what the person who made the request wants.
