Re-enactor Affirmation

Every Pennsic, I go with the assumption that I have enough garb to last me the week, but I think that's becoming less true. I'll open my garb box to change out of mundane clothes, and I'll cringe slightly at the cotton fabric, the O-ring belt, the shoes that really only might go with one of my chosen periods for clothing. I just planned to wear the same outfits more than once, and made enough body linens to change them every day.

I agree strongly with making every outfit one of your favorites. No settling.

I spent the last year tagging around with people who wear all sorts of things. For my first Pennsic, I wanted to communicate a more consistent impression of my interests - and managed to wear nothing after 700AD. I came back and pulled out kirtles to give away and am making more brooch-closed Kentish dresses, with only two overdresses - one for warm and one for fancy.

Does your local group have a collection of loaner garb (for newbies at their first events)? If so, it might be a good place to rapidly get rid of garb that's no longer up to your standards.

Speaking as a custodian of such a collection, do your local loaner-garb steward a favor and mark each piece with size information. :-)

I hear ya! There's some garb I have that I drag out of the back of the closet for Pennsic ... and then once there I can't bear to wear it so it's just taking up valuable real estate.
