Lured with cookies from meriae.

1. Hot Chocolate or apple cider? Apple cider is more a September drink for me. Hot chocolate is meant for winter. I used to drink it with a peppermint candy cane, but lately it's been cinnamon and Kahlua.

2. Turkey or Ham? Depends upon the year. My mum's been making marinated pork loin since she found a really great butcher.

3. Do you get a Fake or Real Christmas tree? real.

4. Decorations on the outside of your house? Not usually. I'll do a wreath on the door and candles in the window, but those inflatable snow globe decorations are truly a special hideous.

5. Snowball fights or sleddin? Could I go skiing instead?

6. Do you like hanging around the fireplace because it's warm? Why else would you light a fire?

7. Do you enjoy going downtown shopping? Hell, no. I do my shopping weeks ahead in smaller stores or online.

8. Favorite Christmas song? Pat-a-pan.

9. How do you feel about Christmas movies? By and large, they're an affront to film.

10. When is it too early to start listening to Christmas music? 30 November

11. Stockings before or after presents? We used to do stockings after lunch on Christmas day.

12. Carolers, do you or do you not watch and listen to them? I hide from them if I can. I was mugged by a pack of the little mongrels last year on the way home from getting groceries, who complained that I only gave them the last €0.50 I had to get them to go away.

13. Go to someone elses house or they come to you? I would very much like to entertain, but it's not my house.

14. Do you read the Christmas Story? Um, no.

15. What do you do after presents and dinner? Make up a list of thank-you cards to write. The past few years I've showed pictures from abroad and then wandered off to chat with smarriveurr online.

16. What is your favorite holiday smell? Gingerbread.

17. Ice skating or walking around the mall? How about making cookies?

18. Favorite Christmas memory? My parents always took a boot from somewhere in the house, ground it into the ashes in the fireplace and left a boot-print on a piece of paper on the hearth.

19. Favorite Part about winter? When it snows, because then it makes the cold temperatures worthwhile.

20. Favorite Christmas decoration? wreaths

21. Lights...colored or white? white. The blue ones are hideous.

22. What is the best Christmas gift you ever received? My dad made me a fleece-lined wool blanket that I've used ever since. I'm fairly sure it's kept me from hypothermia more than once.

23. What is your favorite Christmas tradition in your family? We each get a new ornament for the tree every year.

24. What is your least favorite thing about the holidays? Crowds.

25. What is the one thing that you would like to see under the tree this year? a diploma

26. What is your favorite thing to do/build in the snow? I tend to build animal snowmen. The last one I made was a wolf.

27. What is your favorite holiday drink? mulled wine

28. Who is your favorite reindeer? The one I got from gothwalk and inannajones.

29. What is your Christmas Eve ritual? I used to go sing for midnight Mass at my parents' church.

30. Are you a Friday after Thanksgiving shopper? I had been, but only when we spent Thanksgiving in NY.

31. What is your favorite holiday food? cinnamon rolls for breakfast

32. How did you find out that Santa wasn't real? I learned it from the scuttlebutt around Mrs. Demko's third grade.

33. Who do you want to be under the mistletoe with? My cuddly Viking, but I've never been at a Christmas with mistletoe.

34. Have you bought all your presents yet? Nope, but I've picked what to get.

35. Do you spend Christmas with a lot of family? My parents usually had about a dozen family over. Grandparents, cousins....

36. Do you still make snowmen and snow angels? Snowmen, yes. Snow angels get snow in my hair, which is bad.

37. What's your favorite Christmas movie? The Muppet Christmas Carol.

38. What do you plan to do for New Year's Eve? We've been invited to parties, but they're all several hours' drive, and the re-enactment is on 31 December, so we have to work that day.

39. What's the most expensive thing you've gotten for Christmas? My parents just got me a digital camera for birthday/Christmas.

40. How early do you wake up on Christmas morning? I used to get in from midnight Mass around 2 in the morning, so I definitely wouldn't be up early. On top of that, I tend to have a flux for the holidays, and so would be tired anyway. My younger relatives would then climb up the stairs to my attic room to shout at me to get up so they could all open their presents, usually after only five hours' sleep. Fantastic for the Christmas spirit.

41. What do you usually get in your stocking? Candy and makeup.

42. Who would you like to see this Christmas? Wayne and Suzanne, since I haven't seen them in quite some time.
