HEY THERE ROLJ

I'm a geezer who started way back when you could choose the hairstyle but not a color. I remember the days when 2nd jobs didn't exist, when Glast Heim was hot sheeyit, and every aco who was any kind of aco sat at the Cross. I stopped playing sometime around the release of Einbroch. The years since have taught me that MMORPGS which allow you to wear ( Read more... )

Oh wow. -Starfield-. I've heard of you. Man, so, so long ago. I don't remember if I ever met you personally but we had some mutual friends down the line... wow, who would've thought.

Anyway, I don't play on valk, occasionally I'll poke around on Ymir and the bots are there but few and far between. Meanwhile I hear valk is totally overrun with them. The cultures between the servers are probably far too different for me to really speculate on Valk, but Ymir was pretty awesome from a social standpoint right after the chaos/loki/iris merger, because all guilds were broken and people seemed eager to make new friends.

Mechanics are same as always, but occasionally the huge quest events like the dragon one that just ended, not only make it hilariously easy to level, but really bring everyone together since partying (often even without party share) is actually worth it. The repeatable kill quests in general are often best done in a huge party, so RO has gotten a bit better at catering to those that like to level in huge groups of imperfect composition (IE most groups of friends). Downside is you end up pretty limited in the maps that you level on (but RO was kinda always like that).

Really it's not all that different though; it's still grindy, and you get the most out of it if you're open to meeting new people and fall into a good group of friends to play with. At least, that's how it always was for me-- more a social game than anything.

However, it's worth saying that iRO is supposedly going to start testing the Renewal patch sometime this summer, which will completely change all mechanics and pretty much the game as we know it. There's a lot of speculation on whether it will save or kill RO; guess we'll see when it happens.

(And I totally agree-- rogues just seem so much more rogue-y with daggers!)

Sometimes I think Valk is a server run by bots, with bots leveling/getting items to sell to other bots. It gives "The Matrix" a whole new perspective!
