Y'know, I feel mildly disturbed when I visit people's homes that don't own any books. Especially when they have children. It just seems a shame.
I had a friend in college whose father was a social worker for a time. He ended up leaving the occupation out of frustration. Anyway, my friend mentioned that every time his father visited a home as part of his job he found that none of the families owned any books (aside for maybe a Bible). But they all had cable television.
Since I heard that story, whenever I hear of people having children that don't own any books I feel a temptation to buy them a dictionary or something.
