Back then the weather was fairly normal, though quite a few things were different at that time. It was cooler, in any case.

Ah, well... it used to be more peaceful. Months went by without anything happening, until September when the sandstorm struck. We didn't have the regular events that we do now.

I don't have experience to compare to... but I'd say it was bad. There were a few lulls, though, in which it was safe to wander around.
