Electric Challenge: Stage 3

Stage 3: Hometown + Community
Today, in your own space, talk about where you go to talk about games: your favorite communities! They can be here on Dreamwidth or off on other sites - which you can link to, if you want - or they can be offline. Wherever they are, they are your communities and today you can tell us why you like them and why they’re the place for you.

I'm not really part of many gaming communities. Back when the majority of games I played were MMOs, it was natural that the communities I talked about the game in were those related to the guilds I was part of - both ingame chat and things like teamspeak/ventrilo/discord servers and guild forums out of the game. I've always been a social guild member, so I utilized all those things to connect with fellow guild members.
When I moved from playing MMOs it wasn't as natural to socialize with others playing the games and I didn't really look for communities or forums. I have a few online friends who also game so I do squee with them sometimes, and my sister does play some games like Skyrim so sometimes we chat about what we're doing in game. I did join a few gaming communities on Facebook at one stage but I felt like there was too much drama going on (20+ years in fandom has given me such a low tolerance for wank) so I left most of them. The only ones I'm still in are a few Gaming Mommies groups (which I do recommend if you are a mother who games) and I'm A Girl & I Play WoW (which I'm not really active in any more since I don't currently play WoW, but it's a friendly group so I didn't want to leave).

I also follow some game-specific Tumblr blogs but that's mostly for pretty gifs/art and funny memes and not so much for community.

I'd quite like to join some gaming related Discord servers (esp for Mass Effect / Dragon Age) but it's a lot more effort to find those when it's not just a server for a guild you join, and I'm an awful procrastinator, so. :P (Honestly one of the reasons I joined this challenge was in the hope of finding some more people to talk about games with.)
