Dear Righteous Babe Employee(s),
I am a senior at Oberlin College and an Ani fan since the awkward age of 13. Ms. Difranco's music, words and accomplishments have always been inspirational to me and have touched many aspects of my life. Though I have certainly changed throughout the years, Ani's music has remained a constant presence in my life and I continue to find new joy in her music as I grow older.
Now that I am about to graduate and take my first independent steps into the "real world"--a world filled with economic, political and moral uncertainty--I've come to realize the importance of art, particularly in the community setting. I'm not a religious person, but the sense of hopefulness and community that I've experienced at Ani shows over the years has left a distinctly spiritual impression on me.
And though I've seen nearly a dozen of her shows throughout the years, I've never gotten to hear a live performance of "Both Hands," a song that has had particularly deep significance in my life. I was hoping that one of you righteous babes or dudes could find it in your heart to pass this song request on to Ms. Difranco before her Wednesday performance in Oberlin, OH. Though I have no doubts that Wednesday will be a magical evening, hearing "Both Hands" live would make it a truly wonderful and memorable experience. As I prepare to leave the school and town that I have grown to love [where I have learned to grow and learned to love], this memory would certainly mean a lot to me.
Thank you for all that you do and I wish Righteous Babe Records and Ani Difranco a "hopey and changey" kind of 2010!
Sincerely,
Emily Wachowiak
