Info page update on continuity standards

Jul 22, 2005 01:23

Just added to my info pageUpdate (07/22/05): On continuity.

One of my biggest pet peeves in regards to the web revolves around continuity. Specifically, I am (unduly, according to my friends) irked by violations or breaks in continuity. LiveJournal presents a system that is naturally structured to support continuity. You can reply to Journal posts by clicking "post comment" links, you can reply to other comments by clicking "Reply to this comment" links, and you can thereby carry on multiple simultaneous "conversations" with one or more other users, by keeping each exchange of responses contained within its appropriate thread. Violations of and failure to comply with this system (across all sorts of bulletin board and forum systems) get under my skin, and following a recent rehashing of an old incident that riled my blood on this topic, I have made the following policy decision:

Effective immediately, this journal, and all associated content (including the content of all child comment threads) will be held to a standard of comment continuity. Comments deemed to be out of place within context of a thread, post, or journal (as decided by ragingemu) will be dealt with as the journal owner sees fit. This may include action up to but by no means limited to freezing, screening, or deletion of out of place comments or threads. Repeat violators will be dealt with at the discretion of the journal owner, with screening, banning, and eventual involvement of LJ abuse all potential repercussions for inappropriate commenting behavior (this last portion prompted by but by no means limited to a threatened flood of spam aimed at ragingemu). This statement on ragingemu's info page shall serve as the sole notice of this policy.

Trolls will not be fed, flamers will be smothered, please behave with a suitable amount of decorum. My thanks.

- ragingemu

This announcement should not effect most of you ever, and should only be necessary rarely, but I will henceforth feel justified acting as I see fit with those who flaunt logic and reason, and destroy any sense of organization I may attempt to impart in my livejournal. Yes, I am a ridiculous hard-ass. No, I don't think you should try me, but see what happens if you do.
