DC 48-Hour Film Project

Well, even after missing out on the Stonehenge lottery audition (which is how I usually get 48HFPers attention), I didn't know whether I'd make it onto a team this year. I kept checking for posts at the usual places (Craigslist, Actor's Center), replying to every one I found. I auditioned for two groups, one of which didn't want to commit until the script was written, and the other who said they would probably use me, but didn't lock it down.

So, I'm waiting around Friday night for hopefully a call. About 6:30 a team that I hadn't auditioned for but must have sent a headshot to called to see if I was still available, to which I said yes. At about 7:30 they called back to offer me a part, which I accepted. For the 48HFP if you are not pre-committed to a team you take the first one that calls, because it may also be the last one that calls.

But that wasn't all. Then at about 9:00 the team I had auditioned for that didn't want to commit called and wanted me in their film, and I had to turn them down. Then at about 10:30 another team that I had only submitted a headshot to but never auditioned called, and of course I had to turn them down. I kind of felt sorry for that last one - if you are still looking for cast at 10:30 and are casting off of headshots, then you are pretty desperate. I hope they found who they needed. Lastly, the team that said they would probably use me emailed much later saying they were sorry they didn't have a part for me.

So, I start shooting tomorrow morning at 8AM (why I am still up, I have no idea). The weird thing is, I don't know my team name, because they didn't mention it in the calls or the follow-up email. Still haven't seen the script, so I think I'll get a little sleep and hopefully it will be in my inbox in the morning.

The films will be shown next week at the AFI Silver in Silver Spring, MD. When I know what my team's name is, I will let you know when our film is screening.
