Thank you to
dance_shiva for the oh so subtle nudge. But let's be honest, I needed it.
Anyway, next stage production I'm in is the musical Chess. It's about two chess masters (one Soviet Russian, one American) having a tournament during the latter days of the Cold War (c. mid-1980's). The first act is in Bangkok, Thailand (or whatever in the hell they called it then), and the second is in Budapest, Hungary. There is a fucked-up love triangle, spy-like intrige, lots of singing and dancing, and of course some chess.
I am in the ensemble, so I play anything from a Russian KGB agent to a reporter to a Bangkok street musician to a CIA agent. There is also a chance that I will be playing the leading lady's father which will mean singing a whole song nearly by myself in one scene.
The production runs September 18-27, with shows on September 18, 19, 25, and 26 at 8PM, September 20 and 27 at 2PM, and September 20 at 7PM. It is at the Burke Theater at The Heritage Center, which is located within The United States Navy Memorial. The Heritage Center is located at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004. Tickets are $25 General, $20 Students/Seniors, $15 Military/Groups of 10+. Current information can be found here:
http://www.stroykatheater.com/current_show.html. There is even a link there to buy tickets online, which people are being encouraged to do. The online ticket process apparently needs cookies turned on, just so ya know.
I am told that Chess is one of the musicals represented in
ambug666's Lullaby of Broadway II, which runs the weekend after closing, so anyone playing that might want to see the show for reference (hint, hint).
