Title: Better in time
Word Count: 250
“Andrea, you are being unreasonable.”
As far as Miranda was concerned she’d compromised. Taking the job on the board of directors, handing over the reigns. Why couldn’t Andrea see that it took time, she couldn’t just walk away over night?
At 34 weeks pregnant Andy felt that she had every right to be unreasonable. Miranda had been working every night for the past three weeks, one excuse after the next. This was just the latest in a string of seething arguments.
“You promised me Miranda!” Andy was so angry, she had lost all sense of rational thought. Tonight was the night, the end of an era. It maybe the official handover but Andy knew it was far from over. “Don’t expect me to be there tonight.” Andy screamed across the room as she stormed out.
The scream was replaced by a sweet voice from the door. “Its ok mom, it’s just hormones. I’ll make sure she’s there”
“I’ll make it up to you all, I promise.”
Cassidy could hear the shake in her voice. Andy certainly knew how to break her mother’s resolve. “I know mom, I believe you.”
Cassidy did as promised. They may have been late, but she had got Andy in the car. Both her mother’s were stubborn as hell, but she knew exactly how to play them, a devious streak which, Caroline lacked.
The limousine slowed as it approached the venue, the blue emergency lights were blinding. Caroline’s calling tune burst out loudly from Cassidy’s purse…

Title: Gaol Andy
Word Count: 178
The day had started so well, the march on Wall Street had a fantastic turn out. The United For Peace petition was getting some serious signatures. But during her speech: how did it all turn so ugly, so fast?
Feeling particularly sorry for herself, Andy knew that in about 30 seconds the day was about to get a lot worse. ‘Oh god! Why did I call her?’
The sound of the distinctive stiletto stride, still made the hairs on the back of her neck stand on edge. She heard the wolf whistles from her fellow inmates as the strides got closer, she braced herself for the death glare.
There she was…the harbinger of death; her saviour. Arms folded across her chest; tapping her foot impatiently. She looked a dishevelled Andy up and down.
“Really Andrea, how uncouth!” Her tone was dripping acid. The cell door slid open and Andy remained frozen to the spot. “Do take your time, you know how downtown unsanitary venues thrill me.”
With that she turned on her heel and Andy scurried after her.
Prompt - Whisper
Title: Be your love
Word Count: 133
‘I look around this ballroom, a thousand eyes fixed on you. A thousand souls jealous, green with envy that I am the one to whisper gently in your ear. To breathe in your heavenly scent, so close that I could taste you.
Everybody’s thinking that I can’t be your love, but I want to be your love, for real.
I would never leave your side, you know me better than that. I’d always do you right even when you are wrong.
When you’re cold, I’ll always be there to hold you tight. If you want to cry, I’ll be here to dry your eyes. If you are lost I will find you. You‘ll see that in time, everything will be ok.
If you would only be mine. You don’t need to pretend anymore…’
Prompt - X-Ray
Title: St Benedictine
Word Count: 254
The drinking had become worse, the maid was beginning to find liquor bottles over the townhouse. A constant short fuse, turning on a dime. Miranda could put up with rants, perfectly capable of holding her own, but, this had been the last straw.
“Girls, go to your rooms please.” Miranda spoke calmly and gently. The Twins pushed back their chairs from the dinner table, leaving the room. Miranda waited until she could no longer hear the footsteps.
“I’m filing for a divorce Stephen.”
“On what grounds?” He slurred at her.
“Unreasonable behaviour.” She pushed her chair out and moved to leave the room.
“Don’t walk away from me Miranda. That’s your answer to everything isn’t it? You work all the fucking hours God sends and you accuse me of unreasonable behaviour. I’m not just some toy, some puppet you can pick up and put down when it suits you. Why can’t you show me some fucking emotion?”
“I’d like you to leave, I’ve asked Cara to prepare a bag for you…” Miranda didn’t get to finish her sentence as Stephen was off his seat and round the table like a flash, a hand gripping Miranda’s throat.
Before he could raise the other hand Patricia leaped on him, biting down hard. Howling loudly he let go of Miranda and kicked the huge dog roughly on her back legs.
Miranda scooped a whimpering Patricia on to her lap, kissing her head.
Stephen fled the townhouse. The Twins had already dialled 911.

Title: The youth of today
Word Count: 158
It had been longer than Miranda would care to admit since she had shared her bed with anyone. It was even longer since she had actually slept through an entire night. She lay contently wrapped around her young lover’s body, listening to her gentle breathing; savouring the moment.
Letting out a contented sigh Miranda rolled slowly on to her back and looked up at the ceiling. Letting a hand dance playfully over the soft skin beside her; thoughts for once, clear in her mind.
If she could go back to the previous night she wouldn’t change a thing, the dinner had been a spur of the moment, the conversation enchanting and the sex; well, Miranda was rarely at a loss for words. But…
Her soul felt alive, the fire had been re-ignited. Turning back onto her side, she wrapped a leg over her sleeping lover, breathing in her beautiful scent. It was going to be a good day.

Title: Mind the gap
Word count: 249
Emily had landed the big one. All those years of tears, blinded by fear, she’d lost count of the amount of times she had almost needed to be sedated. But, all the pain had been worth it: Assistant Editor, London Runway.
“Please mind the gap between the train and the platform.”
Emily looked up from her copy of the London Metro to scan the station name. ‘Four to go’ she sighed heavily. Her headphones blocked out the endless chatter in the carriage. Shame she didn’t have something, to block scent emanating from the arm-pit of the plebe, gripping the rail above her.
The Brit wouldn’t have dreamed of using the subway to travel to Elias-Clarke but, she wasn’t a fool. Unless you had hours of leisure at your disposal or a helicopter; the tube was the only way to travel in the city.
Scanning the carriage, she curled her lip in disgust at the fashion excuses seated and stood. Just because you had to hike up and down endless tunnels and escalators that was no excuse for some of the footwear on show.
The beautiful blood red Prada pumps caught her attention. Her eyes scanned up the slender figure of the woman, taking in her long brown hair and the arm wrapped securely round her back. There was something familiar.
The woman threw her head back, elated and free; then all became painfully clear.
It was Andrea Sachs and she was kissing Miranda Priestly on the fucking central line!
