I am intensely angry right now. But let's rewind.
This past week, I got the opportunity to go to the national conference of the AAS (American Astronomical Society) in Washington DC. I presented my summer research in the form of a poster, and I got to listen to talks by people in all areas of current astronomy, from extrasolar planets to cosmology and galaxy clusters. This meeting was HUGE. Over 3000 astronomers in attendance, many of them presenting research. At any given point, at least ten people were giving a speech and hundreds of research posters were on display. The activities started at 8:30am every morning, and ended at 8 or 9 at night (sometimes later, sometimes a little earlier). I was gone for four days of school at this completely overwhelming conference, trying to soak up as much as possible, meet new people, catch up with my friends from the summer, etc. It was very draining. Since I was staying with my uncle, I took the subway every morning and every night. That meant getting up at 7am every day, and getting back from the conference at 10:30 or eleven every night. I was drained every night, and all I wanted to do was sleep. When I wasn't going to talks or talking to people about their research, I was working on graduate school applications (which I'm still working on, as deadlines are coming soon). So long story short, I didn't do this week's homework assignment because I was at a conference that could really help me with my future in astronomy.
My professor for my early morning Physics class will not give me an extension for that homework, even though I was across the country for most of the week. Even though I couldn't work on the homework last week before I left because I was working on my poster, and during the conference I was working on my applications for grad school.
To be fair, I should have had the poster and the grad apps done earlier. I'll admit that, but I still didn't have a whole lot of time to sit down and review my Electricity and Magnetism homework. So I get a zero on the homework for the week because it takes too much of Dunn's time to correct late homework. Wonderful.
I'm so angry that I'd like to punch a wall, or scream and swear, or break something fragile. From me, that's pretty mad. But I don't want to hurt my hand or my voice, and I don't feel like replacing the fragile thing I break or going to jail for disturbing the peace, so all I have left is to fume to myself for my professor being unfair. I should have mentioned to him that they lost my luggage on the way back and my textbook was in my bag, so I can't do anything on it right now anyway. Oh well.
In the end, it's one week's assignment that I won't get back. Homework is 50% of my grade, though, so this better not happen again.
I hate this.
