So I just wanted to add this here, apropos of nothing else in my journal. It's just a theory that keeps bouncing around in my head as I rewatch the latest LoZ trailer for the umpteenth time. I have this feeling that not only is time travel a large part of the new game, it's actually going to use that to either acknowledge or directly connect most or all of the games in the franchise. Crazy, right? But maybe not?
So all the LoZ are generally accepted to belong to one of three timelines. There are videos explaining that in better detail than I could, and a lot of fans agree. But I've seen bits and pieces (and other people have seen/heard things) that reference other games outside of BotW.
Outside of the original LoZ and BotW themes used in the trailer, at least one person in a video commented on having heard the Twilight Princess theme. There's also the similarity between art styles from the (apparently Zonai) mural in an earlier trailer and the Twili. A lot of small things seem to come from OoT as well: the style of Ganondorf, the presence of Epona, the use of Zelda's Lullaby in multiple trailers.
And there are the little teases, one-off things that really either pay homage to another game or are a hint that those games are involved, like Gleeok. A flying ship that could be Rito in origin, or it could be a Link's Awakening/Wind Waker reference. At one point Link even has a shield on his back that, while not painted similarly, has the exact same outline as Majora's Mask-- down to the pointy bits on the sides.
And I'd be willing to bet money that the time travel aspect is going to involve the Zonai in a big way. In fact, I think the pointy-eared thing we see for a brief second, while obviosly the same creature as the mural from another teaser, is either a Zonai leader or Hylia herself. And when Zelda shouts out that Link "must find [her]", I don't think the problem is *where* she is, but *when* she is.
Anyway, it's late and I'm tired and I just wanted to get this out of my brain and in written form so hopefully it'll leave me alone now.
