I feel sorry for Arizona

Even a South Carolina politician calling a gubernatorial candidate and President Obama "ragheads", rage-inducing as that is, can't detract from the assholes with too much power in Arizona. I'm sorry, non-asshole Arizonans. :-(

A K-5 elementary school in Prescott, Ariz. recently painted a huge mural which included depictions of the school's ACTUAL STUDENTS. Several of these students also put in time helping the artists with painting the mural.

During this time, a morning radio host who also happens to be a city councilman, organized a protest of the mural, and several drivers verbally attacked the muralists AND THE CHILDREN because of the mural.

Why? Because several of the students in the artwork were black and Latino. The artists and children were subjected to people yelling racial slurs while they were painting, and a controversy has risen up over whether the mural has some kind of racially charged political message.

And now the principal of the school has caved and is changing the mural so the students look more Caucasian. He says that it's an aesthetic choice, but the artists say it is in response to the controversy.

arizona, racism
