Taking it too far? I'd say so.

There's discipline, and then there's sending a SIX year old to an adult mental institution for behaving like...well, a 6 year old.

"The same school district that allowed an autistic boy to be voted out of kindergarten class for being a bit unruly has a far worse penalty for 6-year-old little girls. Handcuffs and straight jackets."[ Link to the ( Read more... )

Mother. Of. God. If that was my child I'd...I'd...I can't even THINK straight right now! That poor baby!

I know. I'm truly horrified at the school and the deputy's actions.

For god's sake she was six. SIX. Six year olds have tantrums. It's like it's their job or something. That's what they DO. If a school of teachers who are TRAINED TO DEAL WITH KIDS can't handle that then...then NOW what?? Didn't they ever take child development? Don't they know what's normal for a kid that age? I want to write letters! Very mean, angry letters!

I hope the mother files a suit with them. The mother of the autistic boy already did.

She really needs to. It's just insane that these people are allowed to deal with children at all. And what damn policeman thinks Oh, handcuffs on a six year old. GREAT IDEA!. He needs to be in trouble too.

Oh, I agree. And then tossing her into the police car and taking her to an institution? No no no no NO.

Where do they even get these ideas? I mean REALLY this cannot be the first tantrum this teacher has ever seen. It just can't be. I refuse to believe it. Who decides "Why, this child must be insane! Look at her kicking and punching and screeching like a banchee! The crazies, it must be! PSYCH WARD TIME! We can do no more!" -_-

For god's sake, they couldn't call the mother and just say "Your child is being -very- unruly and we have to ask that you come and get her. She can come back tomorrow when she's calmed down." I mean. Really. If you can't handle it, call the damn mom.

Obviously, it makes more of a statement if they send a 6 year old to an institution.

The statement reads as: "We're really inept with kids! Don't send your children here!"

It was a statement that needed to be made.

And the statement I'd make back is 'Oh no, sir you have not seen crazy yet. Wait till I get there to get my kid back."

Yea, I'd have been jailed for hitting someone.

I'd have been put in the psyche ward with my kid. We'd be fingerpainting together within the hour. "No sir, I don't know what came over me. Yes I'll give you the principal's scalp back. I think it's in the oak tree..."
