The proposed law states:
Section 1. 48.982 (2) (g) 2. of the statutes is amended to read:
48.982 (2) (g) 2. Promote statewide educational and public awareness campaigns and materials for the purpose of developing public awareness of the problems of child abuse and neglect. In promoting those campaigns and materials, the board shall emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.
Section 2. 48.982 (2) (g) 4. of the statutes is amended to read:
48.982 (2) (g) 4. Disseminate information about the problems of and methods of preventing child abuse and neglect to the public and to organizations concerned with those problems. In disseminating that information, the board shall emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.

I think Wisconsin's Republican Senator Glenn Grothman of West Bend has his tin foil hat on too tight. There is no correlation as far as I am aware between the marital state of a parent and child abuse.
It seems that Glenn Grothman would like us to return to the 1950's when abused women and children suffered in silence in marriages they could not escape.

Proposals include making it a criminal offense for people to have a guest stay if they're in welfare housing, restricting food that can be purchased with food stamps, mandatory drug testing for all welfare recipients (cos that has worked so well in the past!) cutting child care (because putting single parents out of work helps them so much) cutting schooling for impoverished kids (!bootstraps!) add in a sprinkling of the usual bullshit about zomg single women having criminal children by the football team and ugh, it's a mess.
