For those of you not forced to suffer through 8 hours of CNN a day at work, you may have missed this tidbit, but it pretty much had me RAGEing all Monday long:
Let me introduce the Former Majority Association for Equality. Why, what is this...ominously named group? It's a Texas-based non-profit with the goal "To financially assist young Americans seeking higher education who lack opportunities in similar organizations that are based upon race or gender." (
from their website)
The video of the CNN interview with a representative from the group. Because a group that was "left out" was "the Caucasian American male, who wanted to go to college, but maybe didn't have a bunch of money sitting around just because he was white and he was male."
My "favorite" part has to be when the news anchor (Christine) stated that the reason that there are so many scholarships for people other than white males was because even just thirty years ago it was really just white men getting into school, the representative says, "Well, unfortunately, Christine, I wasn't around 30 years ago to know what kind of people were going to school."
Please, if you are triggered by racism (or stupidity) don't read the comments at any of these sites.
At The Statesman:
"If i was black i would be offended that someone wanted to let me in school based on my skin color. That to me is the same as not letting someone in because of their skin color-oh wait IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME THING." --pincher
"This is a great idea. Its about time someone stands up for reverse descrimination in the college scholarship arena. Enough is enough. The word scholar is in scholarship, so to continuously offer unqualified minorities a free ride for less than mediocre HS performance...just bc they are minorities is absolutely ridiculous...not to mention all the scholarships minorites get for athletics...talk about lowering the standards for those people to get in." --Da Skinn Man
"It's about time. Minorities own all the banks, businesses, and almost everything in this country. They write all of the laws, rules, regulations, and have written most of the history books. Buildings, schools, streets, and almost everything you can think of is named after minorities. Finally, something for us." --hook
"how about our society just quit viewing race period and get rid of race based scholarships. You got the grades, you're in. You got some cash, you're in. Got neither, get a job and earn it." --Mufasa (I found this a particularly amusing username, considering)
From CNN:
"Every other race is afforded special priviledges, so why not whites?" --Brian
"What a bunch of hypocrites ! They have Negro College Fund and everybody did not say anything, pro or against their college fund. Strictly for negroes. Now somebody is thinking of a college fund for whites and all heads turn ? Give me a break !" --John Del Rosario
"I think this is long overdue, the fact that head of the group offering these scholarships is being grilled for offering them by CNN is disgusting, just because the recipients are white?
I don't think I am racist one bit, but the inequality as far as college scholarships for white males is glaring and I applaud their efforts. Yes I am white and a male." --AboutTimeinTX
"IT'S ABOUT TIME. ALL OTHER GROUPS GET FREE MONEY AND MOST DON'T HAVE THE 3.0 REQUIREMENT WHICH MEANS MOST OF THE MONEY IS WASTED LIKE PELL GRANTS THAT REQUIRE A 2.0 AVERAGE WHICH MEANS YOU REALLY AREN'T STUDYING AT ALL.." --JAMES
From AJC:
"I’d better not hear anyone say this is racist. If you think it is, consider that there are many blacks-only scholarships and there are even some blacks-only schools, like Morehouse. Is that racist too?" --MB
"Every month I see has as much about blacks as it does about whites. You are only 13 percent of the population. What do you want, more than half of everything." --Fedup (commenting on someone saying how everything was white for 200 years) (Fedup has some other cringeworthy comments, if you're looking)
"Egyptians enslaved Jews, Romans enslaved the Germanic Tribes who enslaved Nordic tribes, who enslaved the English who enslaved the Africans who enslaved each other. All people have and will be slaves at some point. Only the strong survive, so stand up or shut up." --Enslaved Who?
