Dude, I just saw Barack Obama's speech on race from earlier today. I can completely relate to how he feels, just as I'm sure many of my friends can. I too have loved ones that have said things that have made me cringe. My father, for example, has made disparaging remarks about other races, immigrants, and the opposite sex. But, this is the same man who is married to a Japanese citizen, and is the father of two daughters. This is also the man who taught me to always question, to not accept things at face value, to search for truth, and to never accept that what I'm being offered is all there is. It's because he taught me these things that I can take his more ignorant comments with a grain of salt. It's because of what he taught me that I can argue with him and still love him. Many of us have parents and other family members of whom we are politically opposite. But that does not mean that we love them less. Nor should anyone ask us to.
