As I stated before, I got this meme from tsita...and it really, really, made me think.
After my brother and I were born, mom had to go back to work earlier than she expected to--due to her having twins instead of just one child, like she was told she would have before they found me hiding behind my brother....My father, instead of buying new work boots, bought us milk and paid for diaper service instead of purchasing disposable diapers. Both worked. There were times when they would tell us that money was tight. We all buckled down. And we were better off than a lot of people.
People who ignorantly say that no one really starves in America have got their heads up their asses.

(my grandmother did this with me...our ritual was to go to the Jefferson Memorial or to the St. Louis Art Gallery on the days it was free , and study the art of whomever was touring at the time...then we would go to the park and feed the geese and talk and talk...god I miss those days.)
