How did i spend my summers as a kid? freekofnature July 7 2007, 21:28:42 UTC
I spent my summers working! Split evenly as a child model in NYC and LA (a little work in Chicago) and as a lifeguard at the neighborhood pool. Also, when I was in High School, I went to cheerleader camps...
In the summer between my HS graduation and the start of University, I worked at a summer camp for emotionally disturbed and developmentally disabled children. Toughest job I ever had! I cannot say it was a total waste, as the experience made me realize that I was not cut out for that career choice. (couldn't handle it), I got too wrapped up in the empathy with the kids and the frustration of dealing with young people who had insurmountable problems (and most with incredibly screwed up parents!) was just too overwhelming emotionally for me to handle...
They wanted me to come back, I just couldn't; although it taught me invaluable skills which came in very handy later when I was assigned to work with refugee children from the Darfur district of Somalia when I was volunteering in Windsor...
You never know, when your experiences will come in handy again...
