If you're the sort, will you keep
Scott Johnsgard, Jr. and his family and friends in your prayers. If not, send peaceful thoughts their way. He was a good friend of mine and passed away last week.
I met Scott in 2006, the summer after my freshman year in college. We performed HMS Pinafore and Trial By Jury with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston, together with a couple of his high school friends who also became my friends. Scott was a wonderful man. Talented and eccentric, he had a huge variety of hobbies and interests, from music and
photography to
chemistry and medicine. He had a love of knowledge to be admired. He also had great faith. He was raised Catholic and thought sometimes about joining a teaching order. Unlike many Catholics, his love of knowledge and his faith came together with the result that he made the effort to learn about Catholic doctrine and to study theology on his own, so that he knew the teachings of the Church and the reasoning behind them, and he was ever dedicated to both. The time I spent with him was inspiring to me in many ways. I haven't really spoken with him in awhile. We never talked on the phone, and rarely talked online. He has struggled with a number of health issues, especially over the last year or so. We're not yet sure what the cause of death was.
Scott was a joy to be with. I am very blessed to have been able to spend the time with him that I did.
Eternal rest grant unto him Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon him.
