[series]: Katekyoushi Hitman Reborn
[character]: Chrome Dokuro / Nagi
[character history / background]:
She first appears as the mystery Mist Guardian who substitutes for Mukuro Rokudo during the battle for the Vongola Rings against the Varia. It is later revealed that she is in an interdependent relationship with Mukuro, who was imprisoned in the Vindice prison in Italy.

She was first Nagi, only daughter to a rich yet indifferent mother and stepfather. An introspective child, she mostly kept to herself and was fond of small animals. Saving a cat from a oncoming vehicle landed her in the hospital with the loss of her right eye and in need on an immediate transplant to replace several internal organs (it is not specified which ones). Her mother refused to go under the knife for her daughter, stating that she never really understood her and that many wanted her gone anyway. Nagi somehow hears this in ICU and felt glad and ready to die. It is in this state that Mukuro telepathically finds her and tells her that he had need of her.

From that point on, Mukuro has provided her illusory organs with his power for her to continue on as a vessel for himself (and to manifest himself on occasion) with the trident serving as their link. Tsuna (the 10th Vongola boss) accepted her as his Mist Guardian and Chrome (having discarded the name Nagi) acknowledged this by calling him boss and kissing him on the cheek when Tsuna stood up for her in front of the other guardians.

When she was transported 10 years into the future in the Byakuran arc, she fought and defeated Glo Xinia of the Millefiore with the help of a disembodied Mukuro (who possessed Glo Xinia’s box weapon, an owl) by conjuring true illusions of him, Ken Joshima and Chikusa Kakimoto. This connection to Mukuro is severed when it seemed that Byakuran eliminated Mukuro when he infiltrated the Millefiore base. It was Future!Hibari who taught her to how to draw on the power of the Vongola Mist Ring to create her own illusory organs.

[character abilities]:
As Mukuro’s vessel she is granted the ability to perform the Six Paths of Reincarnation techniques, though so far she has only shown to perform proficiently in the first realm (Hell, conjuring illusions) and third (Beasts, summoning snakes). The trident serves as her link to Mukuro, weapon and channel to cast the illusions. Since acquiring the Vongola Mist Ring she is able to use it to conjure up her own illusions and has shown considerable progress in manipulating her mist powers with the help of Mammon’s training program. She also has some experience in close-quarter combat, as helped with training from Bianchi and I-pin.

She also has her Vongola Box Ring animal, a white Mist owl, which can change form into the Devil Lens, a glass device which allows her to see through any illusion.

[character personality]:
Chrome/Nagi had a lonely childhood, with a vain and indifferent mother and a stepfather that she did not grow close to. Feeling unwanted by her own blood, she did not put much of a premium on her own life. Feeling useless and unwanted, she was actually relieved that she was about to die when Mukuro found her.

Now needed by someone, her faith and trust in Mukuro is unshakeable. For Chrome, there is only her Mukuro-sama. Even in the Byakuran arc, when MM warns her about Mukuro only wanting to use her to get his body out of the Vendice, she chose not to pay it any mind. It is possible that she is already aware of that, but is happy that she can help him to that end.

Quiet, shy and a bit serious, Chrome is mostly uncomfortable with socializing with other people, but doesn’t truly avoid it. She chose to live in the abandoned Kokuyo Healthy Land building with Ken and Chikusa, who she considers as her trusted comrades, after leaving the hospital and her old life behind.

Her trust is in Mukuro, but she acknowledges Tsuna as boss and is polite but a bit distant with the other Vongola guardians. She reacts awkwardly when she is treated with kindness, thinking it strange that people would actually accept and like her. Once she gets used to a person, though, or sees that someone is truthful in their approach, she’ll eventually warm up and show subtle acts of kindness. Chrome is a gentle child at heart, but filled with a strong resolve not to be a burden to Mukuro and the Vongola family and to grow stronger for them.

[point in timeline you're picking your character from]:
Manga. Shimon arc. Will be getting her right before the inheritance ceremony gets underway.

[journal post]:
I’m glad to be back in our own time again with boss and the others. A lot of things happened, I don’t know if I’ll be able to remember it all if I don’t write them all down.

But… I really didn’t want to leave right away. I wanted to be with Mukuro-sama for a bit longer.

MM’s words… I’m not, I shouldn’t really be bothered by them…

He’s always been kind and patient with me. And I know that he’s using me to escape… he came to me because he needed me. Help him. Use me... isn’t it all the same? I’m happy that I’m still of use to Mukuro-sama. That I’ll be helping him to escape.

I just hope that this time it won’t take ten years for us to help him escape from the Vendice.

[third person / log sample]:
Chrome entered the abandoned, musty halls of Kokuyo Health Land after her latest convenience store run. The girls (meaning Kyoko, Haru and I-pin) might have tut-tutted at the paper bag full of chocolates, chips and energy drinks she was carrying on one arm, but old habits die hard. And she wasn’t sure if both Chikusa and Ken would appreciate the sudden shift of buying habits. There certainly wasn’t any working stove to cook from in the building.

Maybe… maybe she’d go to Kyoko’s house one of these days. Just to...

Chrome mentally gave herself a shrug. They just came back from the future days ago. She wasn’t sure if it was okay to just arrive unannounced at her house, Kyoko might still be tired, or...

She heard a low, amused chuckle echo in her mind. It was the constant, comforting voice that only she could hear. The voice whose owner she saw free only days ago, but in the far future. How she wished he was actually standing beside her now.

Mukuro’s voice assured her that if she wanted to see “her new friends”, she could.

“Mukuro-sama…” she whispered to the oncoming darkness. Ken and Chikusa were nowhere in sight. She expected them to be back a bit later on. “... soon then, maybe. Not tonight.”

Oh? She imagines the corner of his lips turn up in an amused smirk.

“B-because I’d… I’d like to be with you again later.”

Their dreamscape sessions had been longer as of late, ever since her return from the future. Chrome blushed when she again heard her master’s amused chuckle in her head, telling her that maybe her new friends wouldn’t mind if she didn’t see them for a bit longer.

Chrome smiled as she heard the noise of Ken and Chikusa arriving. “Thank you, Mukuro-sama.” She murmured as she turned to greet her two comrades. She’ll try to talk to them, seriously, later, about making plans for Mukuro’s escape from the Vendice. She reckoned that, with all that she knew now, it wouldn’t take ten years to do so this time.
