A love that’s only seen on screen
Unfathomed when you’re just a teen
The perfect blend of love and lust,
Of jealousy and steadfast trust.
In foreign beds for two straight weeks
Knowing before the other speaks
What they feel in heart and mind
A connection of the rarest kind
Wherein translations lost and found
Our thoughts were spoken without a sound.
Christmas magic is seen indeed
When the present given, is the same received
A necklace for me, a trinket for hers
This is where… coincidence stirs…
The initials engraved were exactly the same
We have the same first letters for all of our names…
We worked through tears, through doubts and fears
And all the while we were drawing near
To “Goodbye again”
And not knowing when
We’ll see each other
“One year or ten?”
…But true love you shall always carry
Regardless who you choose to marry…
And so couples break up, it’s all part of life
Your high school sweetheart is never your wife…
Bad relationships happen, and will continue forever
Until people realize that there is something better
And what if you find it, but the cards aren’t right?
She lives somewhere else (an 8 hour flight)
And you’re both not of age, so you can’t get engaged…
Even though the two of you are on the same page…
In order to marry, must you be twenty five?!
Why can’t you vow love when the feeling’s alive?!
It’s painful to see these bad couples together
When all I can do is write overseas letters
It kills me when someone isn’t righteously grateful
To be deeply in love and at the same table
Because the most twisted way to end romance:
Is breaking up by circumstance…
