Angry Letters She Never Sent I

Mar 17, 2008 01:42

Just when she thought she was the loser her friends deem her to be, "That's why," (she muses) " one ends up going to a hip hop dance fest by their lonesome.", a Gladys makes her smile despite her night of solitary venture.

The plan was to check out the dance fest, "It's a dance fest! 'nuff said."Then changes along the way screw things up.

"That always happens doesn't it?" She breathed out when it dawned on her that they weren't coming, the deal has been ditched and nobody bothered to tell her. Flushed with frustration, she decides to go out anyway. It's already late and she probably has already missed half of the show, but;

"Who cares right?" Pfft.

The night was chilly, and a quick glance heavenwards tells her it's gonna rain sometime that night. But she wasn't about to let that bother her. It's been days, weeks even;

"No wait, months." (Correcting herself) That she's been trying to embrace a nonchalant air. Trying, alas failing most of the times, to disengage herself from the dejections -one after the other, that's been plaguing her.

"Wonder what it's like to go mad?" She once thought "At least you would have lost your mind, and THINKING would be the least of your problems... maybe."

Arriving at the venue, which wasn't too far from where she lived anyways, she could only guess what entry number was already performing to the blaring beat onstage. She had promised some of her dancemates earlier that she'd take footages of the show, and that's what she intended to do. Armed with her handycam she shoots, oblivous to the hip-hopping wannabe crowd, the smoky air and stench of beer around her.

Couple of hours and stiff arms later, she packs herself up and leaves. She had gone to the dancefest just to check out the different dance groups, their dance styles and moves and to see who won. That done she's off to her neighborhood McDonald's for a late night meal.

Walking along the wet street, evidence to a drizzle earlier, she focuses her attention on the yellow and red logo, thinking of her hearty chicken meal and nothing else.

"The dancefest was nice." she would say.
"We wouldn't have been any match to their skills." thinking still.
"I'm gonna have to get used to these lonely walks." Wistful. "Pfft. whatta loser."

Greeted by the familiar staffs of Mcdonalds, she places her order with one of them who have served her several times before. " Back when we used to come here alot and spend most of our nights here." She recalls. She paid her bill and thanked the staff. Was about to go when,

"Thank you ma'am." Staff smiles "Ma'am, if you don't mind me saying, but I find you really cool." the girl behind the counter said shyly in a small voice.

She stopped midway from picking up her foodtray, digested what she just heard and her lips broke into what could have been her first sincerest smile for the day. She read the nameplate.

"Thank you Gladys. Wow, that made my day. Thanks." Dining alone wasn't so bad that rainy night.
