Cell Phone evilness..
I'm sure many of you have see variants of this email:
In 31 days, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. You will be charged for these calls. Call this number from your cell phone 888-382-1222 or register on-line at www.donotcall.gov. It is the national DO NOT CALL list. It only takes a minute of your time. It blocks your number for 5 years. Please pass this on to everyone you know who may be interested.
Now, there are some BIG inaccuracies in this, which I wish to share with you.
1) cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. - FALSE
FACT All major wireless providers (minus Verizon) plan on making a 411 directory of cell phones beginning in 2006.
What does this mean? That the lists AREN'T to be passed to telemarketers.
HOWEVER!
If you guys are anything like me, you value your privacy, and probably suspect that there is a risk of that number list making it over to the evil hands of telejaredmarketers *coughs and blinks innocently, winks*. It is now permissible to get your cell phones on the government's No Call List, so hooray!
