He knew that black was Earth’s mourning color, and he knew that she knew that Cephiro’s was white.
She wore black anyway.
He threaded his way through the unnaturally silent crowd that had turned out for the ceremony.
He could almost feel the anguish in the air around him.
Their eyes met as he stepped up onto the platform overlooking the throng of people, and his eyes asked her a silent question.
Black?
When he was close enough, she answered him quietly, her voice cracking.
“I like white.”
He understood.
