for my single image arts (not comic panels) i rarely use PS for inking. i use Paint Tool Sai (as screencapped in the WIP for bucky v. HYDRA tentacles). i run a bare bones version of it and it is so sooo great for getting nice smooth lines. it comes with a stabilizer function which you can adjust to counteract any shakiness. you could probably get a smooth line during an earthquake with that thing. <3 you can also rotate the canvas to any angle while you work (much like you would a real piece of paper if you were inking by hand). i think newer versions of PS have the ability to rotate the canvas, so maybe yours has it?
because my copy of SAI is the basic version, there is a limit to the canvas size and it tends to lag like hell if i start adding in all the layers i would use for making comics, so i make do with PS for all my comics stuff. my hand tends to cramp a lot more but it's still better than constantly jumping back and forth between the two programs.
i found a good tutorial on technique. this is the method i use to get long clean strokes. i draw past the area i'm inking and then go back and erase the sticking out bits i don't want.
PaintTool Sai... *weeps*. I miss that package so bloody much! Since I upgraded my macbook to El Capitan I can't get Sai to run, and the version on Deviantart that says it is compatible comes up as having a virus/trojan when I try and load it. I even messaged the developers to plead for an official Mac version but no joy. *sniffle* Is yours a Mac version?
Otherwise, thanks v much for the tutorial and the tip - I kind of do that erasing thing too, when I can be bothered. Othertimes I just leave things sketchy-looking because I'm too lazy. I really need to do something about this laziness thing of mine!

(skip to 5:50 to get straight to the inking part)
inking this way will feel awkward as hell at first, but you'll thank me later once your hand gets used to the motion. :D
would you like a copy of Paint Tool Sai? i can probably email it to you. it's a tiny program.
